I saw it coming from the start.
It all just sounded too good to be true.
Later it seemed too bad to be true, but it was.
When you tell enough lies, they start to sound true.
Truth hurts sometimes, but only if you believe it.
Lies hurt, too, because truth always prevails.
I never saw it coming.
Very nice transitioning from seeing it coming at the beginning to not at the end. I especially liked the too good to be true and too bad to be true pairing in the second and third lines.

But which is which? I’ve been playing with the lines in my head, wondering if each of them could be the lie. Clever, and very true – we’ve all been there.

It’s definitely open for interpretation. I’ve been wondering, too.

Maggie, I didn’t think I’d have time to play with dVerse three times in one week, but your poem got me started, I think I’ll post it here first because it started as a reply to your lovely septet.
Truth it seems is rarely lacking leaven. A wise woman said it hurts only if you believe it. The most tenacious con is self-deception. Truth may have its way, but perhaps is merely written by the victors. Whether it is a sword or salve depends upon the heart that wields it. I feel it best as arms wrapped around my sinking shoulders, circling seventh hell and heaven.
💜 your poem.
Glad I’be found you. Lona

A good response. I’m not sure about the “wise woman” part, but I’ll take the compliment. 🙂

Oh, this is interesting. I like the roundabout way of recognizing truths and lies. Very well-penned. 🙂

This is quite a poem for the truth and lies bombarding us these days. And it all starts with the pattern you express so well in your poem.

Thank you. Yes, it’s becoming harder and harder to tell which is which.

oh yes……too good to be true / too bad to be true. Both can prevail. I’m reminded of the saying “You can believe half of what I say.”
The question then becomes, which half?

Ha! I like that saying. It probably applies to more folks than we think.

I fell the moment I read the title. Genius!

Thank you! I’m still trying to figure out which is which.

The twist in the ending is very good. Sometimes we don’t want to be caught, but eventually we do.

Highly efficient. It made me think about what we are saying just in order to be saying it.
