I am reposting this important photo because the original post cut off the message of the photographer, Justin Hofman. Please read his comments below.
This photo was posted by photographer Justin Hofman on Instagram, with permission to share.
Justin writes:
“It’s a photo that I wish didn’t exist but now that it does I want everyone to see it. What started as an opportunity to photograph a cute little sea horse turned into one of frustration and sadness as the incoming tide brought with it countless pieces of trash and sewage. This sea horse drifts long with the trash day in and day out as it rides the currents that flow along the Indonesian archipelago.

~ Justin Hofman, photographer
“This photo serves as an allegory for the current and future state of our oceans. What sort of future are we creating? How can your actions shape our planet?
“Thanks to @eyosexpeditions for getting me there and to @nhm_wpy and @sea_legacy for getting this photo in front of as many eyes as possible. Go to @sea_legacy to see how you can make a difference. ”
too sad for words 😦 sometimes I despair at the state of our world – and the only way I cope is to keep seeing the beauty – without denying the rest – and reducing waste as much as I possibly can

Hi, Claire. A belated request: may I quote part of your comment on my other blog, The Sixth? I posted it, and credited you as Claire G, but since the blog is new, and this was only my second post, I didn’t really think it would pop up anywhere. I’m still not sure how it got any attention. It’s has garnered a couple of likes already. If you’re not okay with it, I can certainly delete the post. You can see it here: https://thesixth.blog/2017/09/17/keep-seeing-the-beauty/

Maggie – you may absolutely use that comment – I’m honoured you’d want to. It seems our hearts and thoughts are closely aligned 😌 I haven’t been very good at checking what people have been posting these last few months – but feel I’m getting back in step – and I’ve followed The Sixth !!

Thank you! If you like, I can give you full credit and link back to your blog. I’m just not sure how many people might like to be associated with a blog about “mass extinction” (even though it’s a gentle look at the situation).
