that voice

blur3

Like an itch in my psyche,
your insults taunt me.
In truth, am I that abhorrent?

Niggling accusations,
crippling judgments,
peripheral flashes of
forgotten shame…

That and more, you say.
We’ve only scratched the surface.

I really hate the sound of
my own voice.

  1. oh this is a disturbing poem….and yes….the words of others can go so deep into our psyche. Insults, small negative digs….and sometimes satirical remarks that are meant to be funny but dig…all hard to let bounce off of us or answer back in a positive self-affirming way. A message to all of us….to mind our tongues.

  2. some things cuts well below the surface of the seemingly simple “bite” …. and it’s like trying to exorcise demons ….
it’s never pleasant to be on the receiving end, or even, to realize, that we too have offered this to someone else,
interesting interpretation of the “itch” … definitely speaks volumes and carries the weight of implications …
