I once cared
how others perceived me,
whether I fit in,
if I was loveable,
if I was enough.
Now I couldn’t care less.
Now I care
about my own priorities and values.
And in loving myself, I find
I’m far more than enough.

I once cared
how others perceived me,
whether I fit in,
if I was loveable,
if I was enough.
Now I couldn’t care less.
Now I care
about my own priorities and values.
And in loving myself, I find
I’m far more than enough.
Nicely done.

I was a little to the opposite extreme and never deeply cared what people thought of me. However, at that time I also didn’t know how to love myself. I have a better balance these days. Nice write Maggie 👏

Thank you, Shaun. I think balance has to be learned. And revisited on a regular basis. It’s like riding a bike: you fall and then you get back up. 😉

It’s good that we come to such wisdom eventually.

Yes. Took longer than I would have hoped for me, but eventually…

Like Shaun, I never deeply cared what people thought of me and didn’t know how to love myself. I too have a better balance these days, in retirement.

For some of us it takes longer than for others. I’m thankful I finally got there.

“Far more than enough” – yes! Wouldn’t life be better for everyone if we all felt that way, were comfortable in our own skin from the outset?
I love the photo you chose to accompany the poem. It fits.

Thank you. I scrolled a long way through my photos looking for a fit. That one popped out at me.

Maggie, I love how your poem turns “care” from seeking other people’s approval into honoring your own values and recognizing your worth.
