Season’s Greeting

daffodils

Spring came early.

Daffodils sent up blunt shoots.

Yellow buds perched atop short stalks.

Pushing right through autumn’s detritus,

spring defied winter’s chilly winds.

But winter sent a heavy-handed greeting:

a caress of snow, an icy kiss of welcome

and – most likely –

of goodbye.

  1. Ah kindred souls are we in this prompt! That chilling kiss of winter after a few balmy days tempt the crocus and daffodils to peek through the still cold earth and then…..POW! Winter gives her last slam! Yep — I’ve often looked at those early crocus and hoped they’d have the staying power to last through winter’s surprise snow that was predicted to come. You’ve described reality here! 🙂
