Weekend Wildcard: Cuteness Break

1 WILDCARD

This past week has been a tempest of chaos on many fronts and in many parts of the world. We are in the midst of very stressful times, and with 24/7 media, it is easy to become overwhelmed by all the crazy stuff going on these days.

While it’s imperative to stay engaged — at whatever level seems right at the moment –, it’s also necessary to step back sometimes, unclench my jaws…

and look at photos of cute pets.

I know, I know… Facebook… Instagram… blogs… they’re glutted with fuzzy/furry/feathered little faces.

But you know what? I’m going to happily and shamelessly add to that glut. I’m going to indulge myself in cuteness overload. My blood pressure will thank me, my jaws might stop aching, and I might even lose that recently acquired eyelid tic.

Here’s hoping.

(BTW: Today is National Dog Day, but we’re going to let a couple of cats slip in here, too.)

Ahhh, I feel much better now.

I wish you all restful and pleasant moments this weekend.

Shalom.

Canine Culpability

It’s National Dog Day. Let’s celebrate man’s best friend (and world’s worst actors).

“I’m really sorry I did it. Really, really sorry. Um… which ‘it’ did you discover?”

dog day2

“I don’t know why the cat dug up the water sprinkler, but I scared him away just before you got here.”

dog day3

“There’s something stuck between my teeth? How embarrassing. Do you have a mirror?”

dog day4

Cat: “If stealth were a diet, you dogs would starve. Some day I’ll teach you the fine art of aloofness.”

Dog: “You’re a real pal, cat.”

Cat: “Let’s just keep that between you and me. I’ve got a reputation to uphold.”

Dog Day(s) of Summer

The “dog days of summer” actually have nothing to do with dogs (they refer to the Dog Star Sirius and its position in the heavens during a portion of the summer). This summer day, however, is all about dogs.

It’s National Dog Day, an “unofficial” holiday established to acknowledge the benefits and needs of our canine companions. Seeing as how it is unofficial, I’d say it’s open to celebration in any nation.

So hug your dog, adopt a dog, send kind thoughts to the neighbors’ dog whose barking woke you up at 2 A.M. this morning… there are as many ways to celebrate as there are fleas on a dog.

Here’s a shout out to the special dogs in my life:

And lest I get clawed to a bloody pulp, I’ll just toss in some love to one of the cats in my life. She’s not a big fan of National Dog Day. She’s not a big fan of much anything, really. But I’ll leave her story for another day. Like maybe National Curmudgeon Day.

Happy National Dog Day!
