If we were having egg nog, I’d wish you a hopeful, healthy and safe New Year!
I have issues with wishing for happiness, but perhaps we can postulate that if one has hope, health and a sense of safety, there’s a good chance they can find happiness as well.
Oh, the egg nog ran out last night. No problem, I’ve got coffee brewing as we speak.
If we were having freshly brewed coffee, I’d tell you I’ve vowed to put 2016 behind me come this year. No ruminating on fears, disappointments, anger, sadness and doomsday prophesizing. I’ll try to build on the many, many positive moments of last year.
So here is a partial list of what I am wishing for and anticipating in 2017:
♦ The continued blessing of sharing my life with a loving family, companionable pets, and myriad hand tools and DIY project supplies.

♦ Opportunities to contribute to preserving and expanding the beauty and health of this planet.

♦ Tenacity to hold to an ethical, honorable and selfless ethos, such that our society can rise above the mires of that prior year I said I wouldn’t ruminate upon (hint: 2016).

Oh, alright…
♦ ♦ ♦ I also wish for happiness for all! ♦ ♦ ♦

The Daily Post daily prompt: Hopeful

Humans are so creepy,
with only four legs and
hairy heads and
just two eyes that sometimes
have glassy covers or dark lids which
obscure their eyes completely.
Whenever they see me
they jump and scream
and start flailing their four legs about;
you’d think they’d caught a hornet
in their web.
It’s really quite scary.
I wish they’d leave me alone
and go back to where they came from,
wherever that is.
Sometimes I play with them.
I know it’s not spiderly of me,
but it’s such a kick to hear their squeals when they
pull back the shower curtain and find me
hiding in the bath tub.
This Halloween I think I will dress up
as a human.
The Daily Post one-word prompt: Jump

Those held earthbound
are cheated of the birds-eye views
that put the vastness of life
into greater perspective.
Those perpetually airborne
miss the intimate details
that keep our daily lives
in grounded perspective.
Those who soar
with an eye for potential
and touch down
to solid reality
experience life
with a sound perspective
within which ideas
can take glorious flight.

I wanted to get away from it all, even though
I didn’t know what “it all” was exactly.
I just knew it wasn’t where I was,
and it wasn’t
sitting within the same walls and
looking out the same windows and
thinking the same thoughts and
falling into the same rutted patterns
of my daily existence.
I searched for someplace remote
but near civilization,
rustic
but with amenities,
in the wilderness
but not too wild…
and I found it:
a cabin
in the woods
in a forest
that I had thought only existed
in my dreams,
and it was
sitting on a porch
with my closest family members
looking at wildlife and tall trees and mountains in the distance,
thinking more expansively in the vastness of the forest,
falling into new patterns of peaceful companionship,
and while getting away from it all
I discovered that “it all”
is actually a matter of perspective and
is always
exactly where I am.
